Raised in Douglas, MA, Mars (b. 2003) is an interdisciplinary artist specializing in watercolor and illustration.
Her work centers around themes of animals, landscapes, and fictional characters within magical worlds. She
incorporates bright colors and free-forms to create fantastic characters and spaces. Doing this allows her
imagination to be integrated into each piece. Mars’ projects depict and explore spontaneity and fantasy through
intricacy, color, and pattern.
The process of painting connects Mars to her subject matter, making her feel closer to wildlife. Painting them in
their beauty provides a needed change of perspective from the pain creatures face in this life. To Mars it is special
to bring fictional stories from my imagination into the world so she never forgets them and in turn makes them real.
Mars’ current watercolor series, Food Transparency, is done on YUPO paper and depicts different animals within natural,
floral images, representing how their mistreatment is glorified in the real world. Her process begins with cutting out
shapes in the YUPO paper that directly relate to what each painting will be about. She works to spread messages of food
transparency and its importance through depicting animals hidden within certain foods. As an illustrator Mars takes a step
away from reality and tells a specific story about a character's life. Her current illustration series, Animal Houses, depicts
different species in what she imagines their homes would be. She plays with proportion and color to give the imagery a
dream-like and fictional feeling. All of her work, no matter the media, depicts the beauty and importance of our world's
flora and fauna as well as my personal connection to it. Mars currently lives in Beverly, MA, where she maintains an active
studio practice and is pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art at Endicott College.
